Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct at the British Columbia Canadian International School is built around three basic tenets: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful.

The Code of Conduct applies to all students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors to our school community.  The Code of Conduct applies while at school, while going to and from school, and while participating in curricular or extra-curricular activities at any location.

The Code of Conduct has been established to maintain a safe, caring, and orderly environment for the purpose of learning; to establish and maintain appropriate balances among individual and collective rights, freedoms, and responsibilities; and to clarify the expectations for behavior in our school community.

All members of the school community will be held accountable for their behaviors.-----

Some Examples of Appropriate Behaviors

Be Safe

Check that what you and others do is safe

Report hazards to a teacher or the principal

Before you act, ask yourself, “Is it safe?”

At all times we walk in our school.

Be Kind

Greet your teachers and schoolmates in the morning

Wait your turn

Have a team spirit; work together

Have a cheerful, positive attitude

Treat others as you would like to be treated

Be Respectful

Listen to teachers and classmates when they are talking

Respect the property of yourself and others

Respect yourself and others and take responsibility for your actions

Use appropriate language

Work quietly while others are working

Be polite, using good manners all the time

Speak in a tone of voice that shows respect

Clean up after yourself

Rights and Responsibilities

The Code of Conduct establishes standards of acceptable behavior at the British Columbia Canadian International School that exist for the common good of everyone in our school community.  In particular, our students experience their Rights and Responsibilities as outlined in the UN Rights of the Child*, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms*, the Multiculturalism Act of British Columbia*, the Human Rights Code of British Columbia*, the Independent Schools Act of British Columbia*, the BCCIS Policies, and all Rights and Responsibilities as enacted by the Government of Egypt.  Our students learn to exercise their Rights while fulfilling their Responsibilities in the school community. The primary role of students in our school community is that of learners.  It is expected that our students will enjoy their rights as they demonstrate their responsibilities through their conduct, self discipline, and responsible behavior.   *subject to the Laws as enacted by the Government of Egypt

Students have a Right to:                                    And a Responsibility to:

A safe learning environment                                 Practice safe behaviors

Be treated respectfully                                            Treat others respectfully

Be treated with kindness                                        Treat others kindly

Learn free of distractions                                        Keep from distracting others

Individuality                                                              Accept others as they are
