Curriculum & Programs

“BCCIS – a pathway to excellence”

B.C.C.I.S is a British Columbia school situated in Cairo, offering both Elementary and High School Programs. It offers the British Columbia program from pre-school to Gr.12. All subjects are taught in English and all the academic staff must be British Columbia College of Teachers certified. The school is certified by The British Columbia Ministry of Education and it is inspected annually.

High school courses average 140 hours of instruction, except for English, where B.C.C.I.S offers 240 hours per course. Gr.12 academic subjects have government final exams and B.C.C.I.S students write these exams under the same conditions as students in B.C. The exams are sent to B.C where they are marked by government supervisors. The results are released August 1st and are sent directly to the universities to which students have applied. Thus, the universities can be assured of the quality of the applicants. The B.C graduation diploma is recognized by universities throughout the English speaking world.


B.C.C.I.S has an Honor Roll system with 2 levels. The Honor Roll awards are given to students averaging 73% (B average) or higher in key academic subjects. The Principal's Roll of academic excellence is for students averaging 86% (A average) or higher.

 

BCCIS offers:
1. Preschool through to graduation.
2. Complete British Columbia – Canadian curriculum.
3. BC approved textbooks for each student.
4. Arabic and Religion programs meet Egyptian Education Ministry   requirements.
5. After-school activities including, sports, music, arts & crafts, and games.

BCCIS language:
1. The language of instruction is English.
2. Arabic language program begins in Preschool
3. French  language program begins in Grade Two

 

The British Columbia education system embraces the following principles of learning:
1. Learning requires the active participation of the student.
2. People learn in a variety of ways and at different rates.
3. Learning is both an individual and a group process.

Students at BCCIS are taught the British Columbia curriculum, divided into the following subject areas and covered at all grade levels:
1. English Language Arts
2. Fine Arts
3. Core French
4. Mathematics
5. Personal Planning
6. Physical Education
7. Science
8. Social Studies
